Student's water footprints in the fight against the global water crisis

The project "Student's water footprints in the fight against the global water crisis " (2024-1-RO01-KA210-SCH-000243328) has been launched in the School Education sector of the Erasmus+ programme. It is coordinated by the George Lazar School in Corbu, Constanta, Romania, partnering with our Values, Virtues, Integrity Foundation from Bulgaria and two other schools in Sakarya, Turkey (Sehit Ahmet Akyol Ilkokulu) and Thessaloniki, Greece (28th Primary School). The aim of the project is to help students protect and improve the environment and water in their early years and to develop their literacy and awareness of water resources and related problems and challenges. The project's international launch event took place on 20th and 21st of November, 2024 in Romania, and in 2025 and 2026, exchanges of teachers, students and coaches are planned in Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria.

The primary school in Sakarya, Turkey, hosted the second mobility under the project, held from May 5th to 9th, 2025. The program included visits to the local university, to a highly modern hydrotechnical facility – a water treatment plant for several administrative districts, and to the surroundings of Sapanca Lake, from where drinking water is drawn for the entire region. Thematic meetings were also held at the school, with representatives of the municipal authorities, as well as discussions for planning the next main project events.

Mobility in Thessaloniki, Greece

In early November 2025, one of our educators took part in a mobility in the 28th Primary School in Thessaloniki, Greece. Within a week, students and teachers from Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, and Greece exchanged experiences and knowledge on the topic of water and the water footprint of our food.

We thank the hosts from Greece for the warm welcome and the inspiring program! And next spring, we look forward to welcoming the partner training organizations in Sofia!
